Obituary of Edward Michael Flannery

Edward Michael Flannery, age 89, died on Monday, December 31, 2012 at the New Jersey Memorial Veterans Home in Edison. Born in Shenandoah PA, Mr. Flannery had resided in Plainfield for thirty years before moving Edison two and a half years ago. Prior to his retirement Mr. Flannery was a history teacher at Summit High School, where he was known to his students as the "Senator" or "Mr. F". He was a Veteran of the Army Air Corps having served during World War II. He received his Master's Degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Edward was a past member of St. Mary's RC Church in Plainfield and a current active member of St. Joseph's RC Church in North Plainfield. Mr. Flannery was an avid reader, loved politics and was a history buff. He is predeceased by his loving wife Dorothy Margaret Flannery in 2004. He is survived by a son Michael Flannery; two daughters, Sharon Franklin and Cecelia Schoeberlin; two sisters-in-law, June Kloss and Mary May Flannery. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Monday, January 7th, 2013 at Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung, NJ followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's RC Church in North Plainfield NJ. The interment will follow at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00-7:00 pm. In lieu flowers donations may be made to the Plainfield Area Humane Society, 75 Rock Avenue, Plainfield, NJ 07063.
