Obituary of Melvyn Podinker

Melvyn J. Podinker, age 71, died on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the Bayshore Health Care Center in Holmdel. Melvyn was born and raised in Plainfield. He had lived in Summit, Aberdeen and Matawan before residing in Holmdel 2 years ago. He worked as a Master Plumber and was a member of the Plumbers Local #1 in Brooklyn for over 40 years retiring in 1995. He graduated from Plainfield High School and attended Brooklyn College and was a Life Member of the Old Bridge VFW Post #6761. He served in the US Army overseas from 1954 to 1956 with an honorable discharge. He was a NY Giants, Rutgers, Brooklyn Dodgers and NY Mets fan. He loved coin-collecting, working on his lawn at home. But most of all he loved being with his family. Melvyn is survived by his wife of 44 years, Judith Behnke Podinker; his son, who is a soldier in the NJ Army National Guard, Brett A. Podinker and his fiance Deneen Rojas; a daughter, Dorene L. Podinker and her husband Dan Hoppe; a brother, Fred Podinker and his wife Marilyn; one grandchild, Tyler A. Podinker. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, January 21st at 10:30 a.m. in Hebrew Cemetery, New Market Road, South Plainfield with Rabbi Moshe Samber officiating.
