Obituary of Michael William Schwetz
Michael William Schwetz, died on Friday, October 24, 2008 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Born and raised in Newark he lived in Warren for 63 years.
Mr. Schwetz was a graduate of East Side High School in Newark; he earned a Bachelors degree in both Mining and Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Tech. Before retiring he was a design engineer for Egan Engineering in Somerville where he built the largest printing press in America. Prior to that he had worked at American Type Founders as a design engineer for 20 years.
He loved farming and gardening and was an avid reader. Mr. Schwetz was a hockey coach at South Mountain Arena in South Orange and enjoyed playing tennis. He had built the largest private swimming pool in New Jersey at his home in Warren where he had taught swimming lessons to over three hundred people.
Predeceased by his sisters Mary, Adele and Alyce; his brother George who was shot down during World War II and was recently honored at Arlington National Cemetery.
Surviving are his children Virginia Stewart and her husband William of FL; Georgiana Vernacchia and husband Robert of Dunellen; Glenn Michael Schwetz of MA and Geralyn Dooley and her husband Jim of MA; 3 grandchildren, Angel Vorwick and her husband Timothy and their children James and Lynn all of Whitehouse Station and Michelle Durning and her husband Michael and their children Alexandra, Carina and Timothy of Plainfield; Mark Lines and his children Oliva and Lily; sisters Olga Yacus of Lebanon and Dorothy Everett of SC.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 31st at 9:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Marys Stony Hill R.C. Church, Watchung. Interment will be at St. Marys Stony Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-10 on Wednesday and Thursday.
