Obituary of Evangeline DeMarco

Evangeline DeFlorio DeMarco, age 88, died on Tuesday, May 12th, 2009, at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Born and raised Newark she resided in Warren since 1994. During the 1940's she sang on a local radio station and gave concerts in Branch Brook Park in Newark. She volunteered for the Red Cross during World War II. From 1949 to 1969 she was a professional opera singer with The Metropolitan Opera in New York. During that time, she attended The Juilliard School of Music. After her retirement from the opera, she worked for the City of Newark as a Violations Supervisor and then for the Essex County Probation Department. Mrs. DeMarco was a member of Our Lady of the Mount Church in Warren. She was predeceased by her husband Albert DeMarco in 2001 and her two brothers Robert and Al DeFlorio. Surviving are her son Angelo DeMarco and his wife Jean of Warren; her daughter Patrice DeMarco Ferns and her husband Jim of Warren; her granddaughter Jaime Ferns; her brother Gerald DeFlorio and his wife Ernestine of Spring Lake; her two sisters-in law Ada and Gina DeFlorio and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 10:15 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at Our Lady of the Mount Chapel in Warren. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 13th, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105-1942.
