Otha Cox, Jr.

Obituary of Otha Cox, Jr.

Otha Cox Jr. Very quietly and peacefully on early Sunday morning, August 26, 2012, Otha Cox, Jr. was called home to rest. Otha was born on December 27, 1947 to the late Otha Cox, Sr. and Katie Ruth Wiggins Cox. Otha Cox, Jr. was educated in Edgecombe County, Rocky Mount, North Carolina and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1966. Shortly after his High School graduation, Otha joined the U.S. Army for a three year tour of duty, after which he was honorably discharged. Shortly after returning home from his tour of duty, Otha moved to Greensboro, North Carolina. He attended a local college in Greensboro and obtained a degree in Accounting. Otha excelled greatly in his career; He often expressed the importance of "going by the book". In the early eighties he relocated to New Jersey and took a position at UPS. He later retired after diligently working there for 15 years. On August 30, 1986, Otha was united in Holy matrimony to Shirley Sappleton and to this union they were blessed with three wonderful children: Antoinette Gross, Ashley and Andrew Cox. In addition to his biological children, he adopted three loving daughters: Yudit Gonzalez, Nidia Quartanero, and Cadine Lewis. Otha accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1986 and remained faithful and committed until death. His favorite hymn was "Teach Me Thy Way", which is indicative of the fact that he was willing to be taught, he was hungry for the word and was eager to learn more about his Savior. His passing leaves a great void in the lives of; his wife: Shirley Cox, two daughters: Antoinette Gross and Ashley Cox, one son: Andrew Cox, three adopted daughters: Yudit Gonzalez, Nidia Quartanero, and Cadine Lewis. Eleven grandchildren: Rebekah, Michael, Sean, Candace, Judah, MariaTeresa, Juan, Horacio Aron, Sofia, Caleb, and Aaron. One sister: Ruth Ann Cox Carter, Two brothers: Fornell Cox and Milford Ray Cox, a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He was an upstanding member of his community. There will be no shortage in the memories of his sparkling personality and ability to put a smile on anyone's face. Otha was loved by many, and will be missed by all.
