Obituary of Anthony Mortaruolo

Anthony Mortaruolo, 77 died on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. The son of Italian immigrants, Consiglia (Spagnolo) and Carmine Mortaruolo, Anthony was raised in Bernardsville, NJ along with his three sisters, Theresa (DePaolo), Grace (Mazzocchi) and Carmela (Barton). His parents started their family restaurant business in Bernardsville before eventually moving the family and their business to Berkeley Heights, opening Berkeley Bakery and Delicatessen. This is where Anthony earned the nickname Sonny the Baker. Anthony took over at the helm of the bakery and business continued to thrive. Eventually he sold the business to spend time with his family. Anthony's favorite place to be was at the shore with his children, grandchildren and extended family. Many great memories were made during those times. Anthony leaves behind his loving wife of 44 years, Lynne (Bebbino) and their three children; daughter, Amy Pope and her husband, Matt, son Michael and daughter, Katie Urban and her husband, Jason; as well as 4 grandchildren, Cody and Derek Pope and twins, Madelyn and Lena Urban. Anthony is also survived by his three sisters, along with numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and countless family and friends. Anthony lived his life as a faithful servant to our Lord and God and was a communicant of Our Lady of the Mount Roman Catholic Church in Warren. His gentle spirit touched the lives of all he met. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday, October 18th at 9:30 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at Our Lady of the Mount Chapel. Entombment will be at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge. Visitation will be on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, New Jersey Affiliate Memorials Program, 2550 US Highway 1, North Brunswick, NJ 08902-4301.
