Obituary of Lorraine Joan Summersgill

Warren: Lorraine Joan Summersgill, age 73, died on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. Born in Jersey City, Lorraine grew up in Scotch Plains and graduated from Scotch Plains/Fanwood High School in 1956. She then went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from the University of Vermont. She and her husband, Robert, were married in 1961, and just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They lived in Kansas City, Missouri for seven years before returning to New Jersey, where they moved to Warren and have lived since 1968. Lori spent her summers at Mountain Lake in Belvidere, NJ from the time she was seven until the mid 1990's. Lori's professional life was a reflection of her personal interests. She worked as a travel agent for World Travel in Stirling. Lori traveled the world extensively both for work and fun, often with family and friends. Her travels brought her to Thailand, Morocco, Peru, China, Iceland, Russia, Hungary and throughout Europe and the United States. Lori, an avid reader, also worked at Baker and Taylor for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking and staying active, skiing during the winters and swimming at the YMCA twice a week. For the past few years Lorraine has spent time at the family farmhouse in Western Pennsylvania that has been in her husband's family since the 1800's. She loved decorating the house in period style. Surviving are her beloved husband of 50 years, Robert G. Summersgill; her children, Karen Summersgill Potter and her husband Thomas; Robert J. Summersgill; and Kathleen Denise Summersgill, and her partner Lisa Dusseau; her brother, Dr. John Fisher and his wife Judy; her three grandchildren, Phoebe Margaret, Laura Katherine and Brett Summersgill Potter; her cousin and dear friend Adrienne Hawley; and her faithful four legged friend, Chestnut. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd, Watchung followed by the interment at St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Rebuild Gilboa fund for victims of Hurricane Irene, which devastated the school district of Lorraine's grandchildren. www.RebuildGilboa.org or TDBank in Albany, NY.
