Obituary of Maria Minak

Maria Minak, 86, of Bedminster, N.J., passed away peacefully at home on May 2, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. Maria was born in Ukraine and lived in Germany and England before coming to the United States on February 14, 1956. She lived in Newark and Cranford before residing in Bedminster 15 years ago. She worked for a Glove Corporation in Newark for 14 years and then for Verizon in Cranford for 16 years until her retirement in 1987. She was a devote Christian, loved to read, and correspond with over 30 people in Ukraine, England, Canada and various parts of the United States. She is predeceased by her husband, Roman Minak, and her brothers Koste and Yvan Sahajdak. Maria is survived by her daughter, Vera and her husband, Paul Bernero, of Bridgewater, N.J.; her son, Victor and his wife, Lynette, of Oakton, VA.; her sister Juliana Balaban in Ukraine and was the proud grandmother of Valentina, Juliana, Mathew and Gregory. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends who were touched by her love. Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, May 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, May 5, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 732 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, N.J. 07069, 908-756-0017. The burial will take place on Saturday, May 5, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Andrew Cemetery, 280 Main Street South Bound Brook, NJ 08880.
