Obituary of Elizabeth Ruff

Elizabeth "Betsy" (Parker) Ruff, age 92, died on Sunday, September 13, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Catasauqua, PA, she grew up in Maywood, NJ, before moving to North Plainfield in 1957. She had resided at the Chelsea in Fanwood since 2013. Betsy received an Art Degree from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY in 1942. She continued her love of art throughout her entire life. She taught water color classes and won many art awards. Betsy helped start the Vermeule Art Center in North Plainfield where she was highly regarded. Betsy would delight her friends at the Chelsea with her pencil and charcoal drawings. Betsy was a member and past president of the North Plainfield Women's Club where she helped with many fund raising projects. She had been a member of Crescent Ave. Presbyterian Church in Plainfield for many years. She is predeceased by her husband Warren Lee Ruff in 1983. Surviving are her sons Tom Ruff and his wife Amy of Fairfield, IA, Chris Ruff and his wife Alena Horska of Baltimore, MD, her daughter Margaret DeMatteo and her husband Keith of Stirling, NJ, her three grandchildren, Tyler and his wife Yasemin Erboy Ruff, Gregory DeMatteo and Christopher DeMatteo, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and loving friends. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 18, 2015 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Crescent Ave. Presbyterian Church, Plainfield.
