Obituary of Robert V. Hassard

Robert Hassard, age 86, died on Thursday November 14, 1013 at the NJ Veteran's Home in Menlo Park NJ. Mr. Hassard was born in Brooklyn NY and had resided in Warren for many years. Prior to retiring at the age of 63, Robert was a high school music and history teacher for 37 years. He had taught at Plainfield's Maxon School for 2 years and the remainder of his career was spent at Union Township Board of Education and Somerset County. Robert was the choir director of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scotch Plains for 15 years. In 1964 he led the High School Chorus team to the World's Fair in Queens NY. He also taught piano lessons in Plainfield, when he worked for Altenberg Piano Company in Elizabeth. He was a great tennis player and the Union H.S. tennis coach. He is predeceased by a son Tom Hassard in 2005. He is survived by his wife Joan G. Hassard whom he was happily married to for 62 years; two daughters Nancy Voltz and her husband Tom of Fanwood and Carol Bailey of Warren; a sister Ruth Hassard of Fort Pierce, FL. He is also survived by four grandchildren Sean, Dylan, Erin and Grace. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday December 7, 2014 from to 2-3 pm with a 3:00 pm memorial service at the Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung NJ 07069
