Obituary of Ethel Leffert

Ethel (Burnett) Leffert, age 94, of Watchung, NJ died peacefully on January 3, 2014, surrounded by her family. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014, at Wilson Memorial Union Church, 7 Valley Road, Watchung, NJ. Born Ethel Rose Burnett, Ethel was born and raised on the family farm on Hillcrest Road in Warren. Following a few years of living in military housing around the country with her husband Walter whom she married in 1942, she and Walter built a home on the southern end of the family farm on Hillcrest Road just into Watchung Boro. Ethel was a graduate of North Plainfield High School and was a lifelong member of Wilson Memorial Union Church, the Women's guild, and the Women's auxiliary of the the Watchung Fire Department. She also was a member of the Watchung Seniors Group and the Road Runners. After raising her children, Ethel returned to the work place working first for Huston Lumber and Supply Company in North Plainfield, then for the Watchung Police Department retiring as Secretary to the Chief of Police in 1990. Ethel loved many things in life most of all her family, her flower and vegetable gardens, cooking, baking and ballroom dancing with her husband of 64 years who predeceased her in 2007. Ethel is survived by her son Russell and his wife Robin; daughter Tracy Lacopo and her husband Joseph; grandchildren Katelynn, David, Sarah, Emma, Julia, Hannah, Jamie and Keli; great-grandchildren James and Kenny.
