Obituary of Judit Farkas Kapalin

Judit ("Ibolya") Farkas Kapalin, age 66, died on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital surrounded by loved ones. Born in Hungary, Judit came to the U.S. with her family after the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. She lived in Newark, Maplewood and Cranbury, NJ. She was an advocate for education from her start as a teacher, to positions at Seton Hall University and the N.J. Department of Education. Even beyond retirement she pursued education and mentored others. Judit had a deep appreciation for nature, insatiable passion for reading and thirst for knowledge. Her zest for life was inspired by exceptional faith, and touched all she came to know with her spirit, grace and love. Surviving her are her husband, Charles Brian Kapalin of Maplewood; daughter Ildiko Kapalin of Washington, D.C. and son, Brian Kapalin of Maplewood. Predeceased by her father, Alexander Farkas, Judit is survived by her mother, Margit Farkas; sisters, Eva Piotrowski and Marta Krisko; brother, Alexander Farkas; nephew, Tibor Krisko; and niece, Kinga Krisko-Lobo. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, January 13, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Mount Chapel, Mt. Bethel Rd., Warren Twp., NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Judit's memory may be made to BCRC-YWCA Princeton-the Breast Cancer Resource Center ( www.ywcaprinceton.org/bcrc), which provided Judit tremendous support during her brave struggle with breast cancer. Arrangements are by Higgins Home for Funerals, Watchung, NJ.
