Obituary of Joyce P. Boulanger
Joyce Pauline Boulanger, 85, of New Providence, New Jersey, passed away on March 5, 2019, surrounded by family in her home at Lantern Hill Assisted Living.
Funeral service will be held at Presbyterian Church of New Providence, 1307 Springfield Ave, New Providence, NJ 07974, on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 10:00 with Reverend Colleen Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, 95 Mt Airy Rd, Basking Ridge, NJ. Visitation will be held at Higgins Home For Funerals on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 6-8pm. Higgins Home For Funerals will be handling the funeral arrangements.
Joyce was born in East Providence, Rhode Island to John DeFontes and Florence Holmes on August 18, 1933. She went to high school at East Provident High School and graduated in 1951. She went on to earn a degree in Nursing from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. She worked as a nurse for Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket, Rhode Island for six years. She enjoyed being involved in her community by welcoming new families as a Welcome Wagon representative, and serving as president of Band Parents at Watchung Hills Regional High School from 1988-1991, where her daughters Jennifer and Julie were students. Her favorite pastimes included shopping on QVC and eating ice cream at Zita’s Homemade Ice Cream in New Providence.
Joyce is survived by her children, Debra Boulanger of Sag Harbor, NY, David Boulanger of Naples, FL, Jennifer Boulanger of Willow Grove, PA and Julie Spoerl of New Providence, NJ. She was loved by three devoted grandchildren, Jared Goldsmith, Paige Spoerl and John Jay (JJ) Spoerl. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, Robert Norman Boulanger, (1933 - 2005) and her son-in-law Scott Spoerl (1972-2016) and her brother, Robert John DeFontes (1937-2019).
