Obituary of Edward Steven Yanchok

Edward Steven Yanchok, age 79, passed away on Saturday March 30th, 2019 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in Somerville NJ. Born in Newark, Ed grew up in Union, resided shortly in Springfield, then moved to Warren 58 years ago.

 

He graduated from Union High School in 1958, where he was the state wrestling champion. Ed began his career as lifelong builder working with his father. 

 

Ed was very active in the Warren PTA when his children were going to school, was a former member of the Warren Board of Adjustments and member of the Jaycees.

 

Ed’s favorite past time was trapshooting. Most of his free time was spent at the trap club talking to friends, shooting and mentoring new shooters.  Throughout his shooting career he held several positions in the state trapshooting association and won many trophies.  His shooting career highlights included being the 1998 High All Around winner of A class, shooting and breaking the last target at the Vandalia Grand American and shooting a record 60,500 registered targets with a 95.44 average in a single year. He will be deeply missed by all his fellow trap shooters.  You can see more about his trapshooting career here.

 

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Mary (O’Hara) Yanchok, his son Edward Steven Yanchok Jr., daughter Laura Poniatowski, her husband Robert, and his grandson Lucas Yanchok.

A visitation will be on Friday 1 to 3 pm and 6 to 9 pm at Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung NJ 07069.
