Obituary of Doris Dresdale

Doris (Rothseid) Dresdale, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at her home in Bridgewater.  Born and raised in Newark, she was a resident of Plainfield from 1953-2016, before moving to Bridgewater.

Doris was a graduate of Weequahic High School in Newark.  She earned a BA from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL in 1945 and continued her education at Smith College, Northampton, MA receiving her master’s degree in social work in 1947.

Doris was a social worker at Rutgers University, New Brunswick.  She was a devoted partner to her late husband Dr. Frank Carter Dresdale, who practiced internal medicine in Plainfield for over 40 years.  They worked together side by side for many years with Doris managing his practice.

Doris was a member of Temple Sholom.

In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, reading the NY Times daily, Broadway theater, classical music, dinners at her favorite restaurant Giovanna’s in Plainfield, her family as well as her dogs.  Her family gave her the nickname “Jaws” because she was always striking up a conversation with everyone she met. Doris was kind and personable and will be missed dearly by her family and friends. She was a very devoted friend, and she placed a high priority on her friendships.

Predeceased by her husband Dr. Frank Carter Dresdale in 2010 and her sister Vivian and brother Albert.

Survived by her children; Dr. Arthur Robert Dresdale, Richard Conrad Dresdale and Diane Elizabeth Dresdale; grandchildren Marcella Elizabeth Dresdale, Richard Conrad Dresdale, Jr., Michael Brennan Dresdale, Anna Sage Dresdale Rogoff, Marielle Rose Dresdale Rogoff and Wyatt Carter Dresdale Rogoff; a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at 12 noon at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, followed by interment at B’Nai Jeshurun Cemetery, Hillside.
