Shawn Snider

Obituary of Shawn C. Snider

Shawn C. Snider, son of William C. Snider and Francine Snider, was born on September 22, 1972 in New York, New York. He went home to be with the Lord on the afternoon of Saturday, April 18, 2020. Shawn, also known as “Shaah”, was raised in the Bronx in a Christian home. From the time Shawn was six months old, up until kindergarten, he spent time with his beloved babysitter Mrs. Felder. When it was time to start school, he attended Our Lady of Grace Elementary/Middle School in the Bronx. During his teenage years, he studied the Koran along with the Bible. He began his high school career at Truman High School however he received his diploma from Stevenson High School, both in the Bronx. Shawn then attended the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) to continue his education during which time he met Sultanah Corbett. They gave birth to Shawn’s first child, Zaire Pharoah. Shawn was always a hard worker. During his teen years, he began his work career with his late Uncle Charles, delivering groceries at MET Food on White Plains Road. Then for a time he worked at General Motors with his Dad, William. Shortly thereafter, he went to California to be with his son, Zaire. After some time, Shawn made the difficult decision to return home to the Bronx. Shortly after his move back “home” he met Kenya “Lisa” Moodie, and they gave birth to Shawn’s youngest son, Isaiah Idris. Over the past 20 years, he has been a hardworking employee at the Associated Cut Flower Company. Shawn always knew how to brighten up his family’s day. To family, he referred to himself as Shawn Cornelius because his father’s middle name was the same. Shawn always had a special relationship with his Aunt Geraldine. Whenever Shawn called or stop by to visit her, she would stop what she was doing just for them to have some quality time. He had a love of food, comic books and of course, sneakers. Shawn loved his mother’s cooking, especially her spaghetti. His affinity for sneakers led him to be the family sneaker expert, so much so when his sons or nephews needed sneakers, he would be the one to go to! Shawn was a New Yorker through and through! He loved and supported the New York Jets and the New York Knicks, and although he supported two losing franchises, it was NOT indicative to who he was. His brother would always ask why do you support those losing franchises and he would respond that you must support the home team. He also made it a point to support the black quarterbacks. Shawn loved music as well. He would send a battle of music via text to his son, brother, and numerous family members demonstrating his musical prowess. Growing up, basketball was one of his great past times along with taking his brother to Edenwald Projects, and different parks in the Bronx to play ball with the guys. Shawn was proud to say that he was the first to put a basketball in his brother Jermaine’s hand. Although Shawn studied the Koran, he knew God! He knew God loved Him. Shawn participated on the weekly family prayer call and he shared with his Dad this scripture which is Psalms 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God!” He used those prayer calls to do what he does best, bring a smile to his family members’ faces and joy to their hearts. Shawn leaves to cherish, his father William (Adelaide) and his mother, Francine; his two sons, Zaire and Isaiah; his significant other, Kenya (Lisa) Moodie; one brother, Jermaine (Aishia); two nephews, Brandon and Jason; two nieces, Zoe and Savana; one goddaughter, Coryn Na’laya Troupe; two god sisters, Teneshia Richards-Brooks (Tion) and Dr. Talmesha Richards-Smith (Scott), his God father Johnny Boone, and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives and friends. “For I am now ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord the righteous judge shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them that love his appearing.” II Timothy 4:6-8
