Obituary of Loretta Schmitt
Loretta Schmitt, age 89, passed away on Monday September 6, 2021 at Morristown Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in Queens NY, Loretta had resided in Dix Hills, East Hampton and North Merrick before setting in Basking Ridge NJ, 45 years ago.
Loretta was a dedicated member of the St. James RC Church in Basking Ridge, where she was a member of the Alter Rosary Society. Loretta was also a member of The Bonafides of Somerset Hills, a local organization that raised money and helped the local community. She was well known for her love of milk glass and her extensive collection. In her spare time she enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is predeceased by her husband George C. Schmitt, a son George L. Schmitt, a grandson Zachary Schmitt, and her brother, William Magner.
She is survived by her four children Stephen Schmitt, Thomas Schmitt and his wife Alicia, Eileen Schmitt, and Patricia Albertson and her husband Scott, 9 grandchildren Thomas, Brianna (Michael), Lauren, Paige, Stephanie, Hanna, Hayley, Emily and Scott. She is also survived by her sister Mary Cowdell, and a daughter-in-law, Melissa.
A visitation will be held on Monday September 13, 2021 from 4 to 8 pm at Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung NJ 07069. The funeral mass will be on Tuesday at 10:30 am at St. James RC Church in Basking Ridge followed by the entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Basking Ridge.
