Obituary of John M. Kinahan

John Michael Kinahan, born on December 27, 1947, left this world peacefully after a valiant battle, on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, leaving behind a legacy imbued with laughter, adventure, and unwavering love. A son of Elizabeth, NJ, and a beloved figure in Green Brook for over fifty years, John's life was a testament to the power of family, the warmth of friendship, and the beauty found in life's unique moments.

John was predeceased by his loving wife, Lynn D. Kinahan, in 2009, and his brother Billy, losses that deeply touched his heart. Yet, his spirit, characterized by an infectious laughter and boundless curiosity, never waned. John had the rare ability to make every moment memorable, often in ways that pleasantly surprised those around him.

He was a man of many interests, finding solace in the pages of books, the stories of history, and the mechanics of his beloved VW Beetle. Trains, horse races, and dining out with friends and family were among his favorite pastimes, along with spirited rounds of "Jeopardy," where his broad knowledge was always on display. These seemingly simple pleasures were elevated by John's unique perspective and zest for life.

Professionally, as a drawbridge operator for NJ Transit, John's daily stories became legendary, each one showcasing his genuine interest in the world and the people in it. His approach to life and work always carried a touch of the extraordinary, making every encounter with him an unforgettable experience.

John leaves behind a family who cherished his remarkable spirit: his children, Scott Kinahan, Tracy Trivigno and her husband Sontino, Kristin Kinahan and her significant other, Anthony Caldwell, and Cory Kinahan and his wife Ula; his grandchildren, Jaedon Kinahan and Breeana Trivigno; and his siblings, Ann Marie Masek and Charles Kinahan. Each family gathering was brightened by his presence, a testament to the joy and unique spark he brought into their lives.

A visitation will be held at Higgins Home For Funerals on Sunday, February 4, 2024, from 1 PM to 5 PM. Cremation services will be private, and a burial will take place privately at Graceland Memorial Park in Colonia, New Jersey.
