Obituary of Alida Ann Macor

Alida Ann Macor (née Ayo), 92, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend to all she touched in her life journey, died on Monday, April 22nd, 2024 in the care of Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains NJ. 

She is survived by her five children, Kathleen Macor (Michael Karras), James (Catherine), Richard (Lois), John, and Carol Jafferjee (Husein Jafferjee), eleven grandchildren (Colleen, Joseph, Kyle, Sarah, Mark, John, Stephen, Nicholas, Jackson, Jordan and Nina), two great-grandchildren (Olive and Zachary), many nieces and nephews, and her brother Reverend Nicholas Richard Ayo, CSC. 

Alida was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Joseph Macor, Jr., who passed in 2003. Alida was also predeceased by her older brother Jackson Ayo III. 

Born in Elizabeth, NJ to Jackson Ayo, Jr. and Genevieve Ayo on June 11th, 1931, Alida was a 1953 graduate of Caldwell University (NJ) and began her career as a math teacher immediately thereafter.  After raising her five children in Piscataway NJ and then in Bridgewater NJ, she continued her teaching career as a substitute teacher, while also pursuing writing numerous newspaper articles/columns and books (“And Sew On”) based on her passion for sewing.

Alida was also an active parishioner in the community of Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville NJ, serving in a number of different volunteer positions, including as a Eucharistic Minister, and along with other church volunteers brought Holy Communion and fellowship weekly to nearby nursing homes.
