Obituary of Mary Matullo

Mary Matullo, age 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Mira Vie in Warren, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Kearny, Mary grew up in Chatham and moved to Watchung in 1958 after marrying the love of her life, Frank T. Matullo. It was in Watchung that Mary would spend the rest of her life, raising her family and serving her community with love and dedication.

Mary earned her bachelor's degree in education from Panzer College, now known as Montclair State University. Before having her two sons, she taught for several years in Westfield, using her degree to enrich the lives of many children. Later, she continued her teaching career at Union Village Nursery School in Warren. The joy and fulfillment she found in teaching were evident in her warm and nurturing interactions with her students, who brought her immense happiness throughout the years.

A devoted member of St. Mary's Stony Hill RC Church in Watchung, Mary was known for her deep faith and religious commitment. She was also an avid reader and took great pleasure in assembling tabletop jigsaw puzzles, which were her favorite pastime. Her passion for arts and crafts was a lifelong endeavor, generously shared with her young students and continued even after moving into a local nursing facility, where she played a vital role in the arts and crafts program. Summers at the Jersey Shore were particularly cherished by Mary, where she created lasting memories with her family.

Mary is predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank T. Matullo Sr., who passed away in 2006, and her son Jim, who passed away in 2017.

She is survived by her son Frank T. Matullo Jr. and his wife Lori, and her three cherished grandchildren, Michael, Jesse, and Justin.
