Alice Kyrioglou

Obituary of Alice Carolyn Kyrioglou

Alice Carolyn Kyrioglou (nee Bugle), 85, passed away early on November 3, 2024 at her home in Warren, NJ. She was born in Newark, NJ and grew up in Scotch Plains, NJ with her three siblings.

Alice attended Scotch Plains High School. One of her early jobs as a teenager was waitressing at the Melon King, an establishment often visited by NY Yankees players. This is where she met her future husband, William Kyrioglou.

After finishing high school, she worked for Stavid Engineering/Lockheed as a stenographer.

Alice and William were married in August 1960 after he returned from his time overseas in the Army, honeymooning in Bermuda. They raised their four children in Fanwood, NJ for a few years before settling in Warren, NJ.

She worked with Chubb & Son Insurance for close to 15 years as an administrative assistant.

She enjoyed tennis, Mahjong, poker and scrabble, and played in a bowling league. Alice dabbled in painting, loved going to garage sales and flea markets, as well as having her own garage sales. She was an avid gardener tending to her flower gardens and houseplants. She loved all animals, especially all of the dogs the family raised over the years. And family and friends enjoyed her sarcastic but humorous nature.

Alice enjoyed cooking and for many years hosted large family gatherings on Thanksgiving. She even learned Greek cooking and baking from her mother- and sisters-in-law to mix with some traditional Slovak dishes from her mother's family.

While not frequent travelers, their favorite destinations included visits to Bermuda, Niagara Falls, and visits to their sons in Colorado and Washington, DC.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Mary Bugle and siblings, Edwin, Mary, and Gloria. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years William, and children William, Michael, Joanne, and Lisa.

A memorial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Alice's memory can be made to Warren Township Rescue Squad, your local animal shelter, or a charity of your choosing.
