Obituary of June C. Thalheimer
May 6, 1938 – January 24, 2025
June C. Thalheimer (née June Marion Cody) passed away peacefully at the age of 86 near her home of 64 years in Plainfield, NJ. Born on May 6, 1938, in Bayonne, NJ, to Harry Clinton Cody, Jr., and Alma Louise Feczko (Cody), June lived a life full of dedication to her family, career, and community.
June was predeceased by her beloved husband, Leonard J. Thalheimer, M.D., her older brother, David Harry Cody, and her younger half-sister, Jill Louise Deubert. She is survived by her sons, David Thalheimer (Amanda) and their four children, and Ross Thalheimer (Joanne) and their three children, as well as her half-sister Leslie Jean Cody Geis and her child.
A proud graduate of Linden High School (Class of 1956), June was crowned Miss Bayonne in 1957 and represented her hometown in the Miss New Jersey pageant that same year.
She subsequently planned high school reunions for decades, keeping in touch with many of her classmates over the years. She earned her R.N. degree from Jersey City Hospital School of Nursing and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. degree from New Jersey State College in Jersey City, NJ.
June met her future husband while working at Jersey City Medical Center. She served as the office manager and nurse for her husband’s medical practice until his passing. June’s professional accomplishments included roles as a blood pressure specialist for the National Institutes of Health's MRFIT program and a clinical nurse manager for the American Health Foundation’s U.S. Air Force HEART program. Later in life, she worked as a computer scoper for a court reporting firm and became a Mary Kay Cosmetics Beauty Consultant.
June was a life member and three-term president of the Greater Plainfield Section of the National Council of Jewish Women, earning the prestigious Hannah G. Solomon Award. She served as an election poll worker and received numerous accolades for her extensive community service. A dedicated member of Temple Beth El in Plainfield, June embraced Judaism after meeting her husband, fully integrating its traditions and values into her life.
June’s greatest joy was her family. She retired early to be a devoted grandmother (“Bubbie”) to her grandchildren, whom she cherished deeply. She always had a smile and a “how do” at gatherings and holidays and loved her extended family greatly. She will be missed terribly.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 28th, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at Beth Israel Memorial Park Cemetery, Route 1 North & Woodbridge Center Drive, Woodbridge, NJ 07095.
