Obituary of Marjorie L. Schlenker

Marjorie Louise Schlenker of Watchung, NJ, died Thursday, October 18th, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was 85. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, Marjorie was a graduate of Abraham Clark High School and Berkeley Secretarial School. She also held a bachelor's degree in English from Kean University. Marjorie was a world traveler who visited 6 of 7 continents. She was also a skilled photographer, avid reader, and devoted fan of the Somerset Patriots and the "Jersey" Giants. She was an active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Berkeley Heights and a former member of the Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield. Nothing was more important to Marjorie than her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, George W. and Elizabeth Kuhn Schaefer, her sister, Betty Schaefer Villano, and her husband and childhood sweetheart, Robert Martin Schlenker. Surviving are three children: Robert M, Jr. (Jan) and James G. (Susan) Schlenker, and Joan E. S. (James) Morgan; eight grandchildren: Austin (Sun Yan), Jason (Emily), and Clinton (Courtney) Schlenker, Laura S. (Robert) Grasberger, Leigh S. (James) Anderson, Courtney S. (Paul) Klimovich, Christinaand Andrew Morgan, and 10 great grandchildren: Ryan Grasberger; Lindsay and Brendan Anderson; Jack, Mae, Robert, Riley, Lillian, and Matthew Schlenker; and Kali Klimovich. Also surviving are her sister in-law, Grace S. Kosnick, and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be Sunday, October 21st, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung. A memorial service will be held Monday, October 22nd, 2012 at 10 am at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Berkeley Heights. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. Condolences may be delivered at www.higginsfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
