Obituary of Sr. Jeannette O'Brien

Sister Jeannette, 99, died peacefully on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at McAuley Hall Health Care Center in Watchung, NJ. Sister Jeannette, one of eight children, was born in Moorestown, NJ. She attended Camden Catholic High School and entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1936. She earned a BA degree in elementary education from Georgian Court Universiity, Lakewood, NJ. She also studied at Boston College, Boston University and Fordham University, NY. Sister Jeannette's teaching assignments include St James School, Red Bank; Our Lady of Lourdes, Milltown; St Joseph School, Keyport; St Paul School, Princeton; and St John School, Collingswood. She retired from teaching in 1980 and served as a volunteer in St Charles Parish, Cinnaminson until 2003 when she moved to St James Retirement Community in Red Bank, NJ and most recently moved to McAuley Hall Health Care Center, Watchung where she continued her lifelong ministry of prayer. A quiet, gentle woman with a ready smile and a kind word to everyone. She is survived by her sister, Loretta Matthews of Florida, many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and Sisters of Mercy in the Mid-Atlantic Community. Visitation will take place at McAuley Hall Health Care Center, 1633 Highway 22, Watchung, NJ on Wednesday, December 10, 2014. Wake will be from 9:30 to 11:00 am, with the Welcome Home Service at 10:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield, NJ Memorial Contributions may be made to Sisters of Mercy Mid-Atlantic Community, 1645 Highway 22, Watchung, NJ 07069
