Obituary of Harry Gerus

Harry Gerus was one of 10 children born to Frank and Molly Gerus on the family farm in Tidioute, Pennsylvania. Gifted in his studies, Harry graduated from Tidioute High School at age 16. He joined the Navy at 18, and was stationed on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific during WWII. Harry earned a B.S. in Electronics Engineering, and had a career which spanned the history of the U.S. Aerospace program. The high point was his work on the guidance system for the Lunar Excursion Module. Harry was married for 58 years to Barbara Buckingham Gerus, who predeceased him in May, 2010. Together they raised three daughters: Wendie, Leslie and Lorri, at their home in Watchung. Harry also served on the Board of Wilson Memorial Church, and volunteered on the Watchung Rescue Squad for many years. Harry leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Wendie Gerus (Mark Levy), Leslie Gerus, Lorri (Don) Monetti, and five grandchildren: Shain Johnson, Ben Levy, Harriet (Nimo) Assan, and Luke and Noah Monetti; as well as his sister Stella (Jack) Merkle, sister-in-law Candace (Jon) Druggan, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Harry will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 24, 2015, at Wilson Memorial Union Church, 7 Valley Road, Watchung, NJ 07069. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations either to the Wilson Memorial Church Endowment Fund or Habitat for Humanity.
