Obituary of Joseph Barnes

Joseph H. Barnes, 80, of Plainfield, passed away Monday at Somerset Medical Center. He grew up in Richmond, Va., and lived in Plainfield for nearly 50 years. He was employed at Block Drug in Piscataway as a microbiologist. He earned a Bachelor's in Microbiology from Virginia State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Plainfield. He was a Boy Scout troop leader and a member of the Optimist Club. Survived by wife of 54 years, Thelma, and sons, Jeffrey and Gregory and a host of other relatives. A viewing will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., followed by services at 10:15 a.m. at United Presbyterian Church in Plainfield. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
