Obituary of Betty C. Lewendon

Betty Connor Lewendon, age 87 passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside on Sunday May 2nd at Somerset Medical Center, Somerville, NJ after a brief illness. Born on December 1, 1916 in White Plains, NY, Betty was the youngest of eight children born to Charles and Jenny Connor. She attended White Plains High School and New York University, where she received a degree in Physical Education. Betty married John C. Lewendon on June 27, 1942. The Lewendon family settled on Myrtle Avenue, Plainfield. NJ in 1950. She was a physical Education Teacher and Girls Tennis Team Coach at Plainfield High School from 1960 to 1975. She retired and lived in Southhampton, NY for 20 years where she enjoyed everything Long Island had to offer. She returned to NJ and had lived in Bound Brook for the last nine years. She is predeceased by her husband John Charles Lewendon (1993) and seven siblings. She is survived by her six children, Judy and her late husband, Les Gorrell of Pennsylvania, Linda Kovach and her husband, Charles of Piscataway, NJ, Scott Lewendon and his wife Debbie of New York, Susie Lehr and her husband Rudi of New Hampshire, Jock Lewendon and Lynn DiNardo, of Bound Brook, NJ and Ricky Lewendon and his wife Sherrie of Bound Brook, NJ. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She lived her life with optimism and a great sense of humor. She was a tremendous source of strength and support for her family and inspired them to live life to the fullest.
