He showed us all how to live well...and to live right. Family first, then teaching, then baseball. He was always hardest on himself...not on others. He had a kind, forgiving and supportive nature. I was lucky to have him as a brother-in-law.

Nancy, Marissa, and Tommy,
I worked with your dad at Memorial Sloan-Kettering and he always brought sunshine to my day. We would always talk Mets because we both loved the team and going to games. Even gave him tickets one time to a game I couldn't go to.
He always had such a positive spirit and was such a fighter. Marissa & Tommy, he couldn't have been prouder of you. You two were who we talked about after we commiserated about the Mets.
Love and prayers to all of you. I'll think of him everytime I go to Citifield.
Best,
Erica

Although I have not seen Brian for many years, we were friends in high school, part of the same group. Brian was always one of the nicest, kindest people. He made everyone feel special. So sorry for your loss.

All my memories are connected with Brian and the kids: at Tommy's ball games ("Good job, T!!"), passing Brian in the wee hours of the morning as we drove our kids to high school, waiting to pick Tommy up at the bus stop or dropping him off ...
Psalm 63:1-8
I will continue to pray for all of you in these tough weeks, months, and years ahead. Call if you need absolutely anything.

Brian and I had been friends since high school. We "drifted" in and out of each other's lives for many years but never lost that special NB connection. His sense of pride, commitment and humor were always evident.Last time we met was for breakfast prior to my moving to Va. Upon leaving that day we slapped each other's bald heads for luck and drove away with smiles on our faces.
Brian was more than Mr. North Bergen. He was the epitome of Mr. Everyman! God certainly chose a good one last week.

Brian was one of my favorite people. It was a privilege to know him through the years and I enjoyed our infrequent, but sometimes length conversations at the store. We had common passions for public education, politics, and baseball. I cannot imagine how much his family, friends, and students will miss him.

I was so saddened to hear about Brian's passing. We were in Mr. Del Vecchio's Honors English class together. He was the personification of the All-American boy.

A more humble and genuine human being would be hard to find. Brian's mother Nora and my mother were best friends. I remember convincing him to audition for "The King & I" in high school ... and when he got a prime role, we decided to refer to each other as "cousins" because of the bonds of friendship our families shared. Brilliant, talented, self-effacing and generous, this was a tireless servant who truly did God's work on this earth. It is said a man's character is his fate, and there is no doubt Brian Vanicky is seated at the table of our Lord. Bless him and all who loved him, especially his wife and children, at this very difficult time.

Brian was a class act. He respected all people and all of their opinions and thoughts. I remember he could always make me laugh, and he could always make me think. I am privileged to have known him.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Nancy, Marisa & Tommy and all their extended family on the loss of such a wonderful guy. I will always remember him laughing and the Steely Dan concert he and I went to alone because our spouses didn't want to go. Both Jaime and I were blessed to know him.

As Brian walks his faith with God to his eternal home he will be missed by family and friends. How long is his walk? As long as a memory. May grief be short and memories forever.
