Obituary of Brian Michael Vanicky
Brian Michael Vanicky, age 54, died on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown. He was born in Jersey City, grew up in North Bergen and had lived in Bridgewater since 1997.
Mr. Vanicky was the President of the Class of 1973 of North Bergen High School, and was selected "Mr. North Bergen" by his classmates. He was a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist.
Mr. Vanicky was an outstanding college student and received his bachelors's and master's degree from Rutgers College and his law degree from Rutgers Law School in Newark. He also spent time matriculating at Williams College.
Mr. Vanicky had been a history, law and economics teacher at Ridgewood High School since 1997, where he was extremely popular with his students. Prior to that, he had practiced law and worked at the Newark Economic Development Corp., for some private law firms and for Woodbridge Township.
He was an avid sports fan and especially loved baseball. In fact, he played in a 30 and over league for many years. He was devoted to his children and got great joy from watching them play their sports.
He is predeceased by his brother, William Vanicky, Jr., in 1990.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Leboeuf Vanicky; his son, Thomas Vanicky and his daughter, Marisa Vanicky.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 17th at 10:00 a.m. at Bridgewater United Methodist Church, 651 Country Club Rd. Bridgewater followed by internment at Somerset Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the Higgins Funeral Home in Watchung on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
